Welding QA Welding QA (quality assurance) is critical to product performance,
and aesthetics. While visual inspection can often detect welding that was
done at the wrong current or speed, or simple cracks or other imperfections,
serious defects in the weld bead can only be identified with instrumentation. Good welding QA was formerly only possible with a collection of separate
items: a stereo microscope, an appropriate source of illumination, a CD camera,
some image analysis software, and a program that would create reports. Now Struers, a world leader in materialography, has introduced a welding QA
system that is a true one-step solution. Welding Expert quickly and precisely
determines the quality, size, position and bond of the weld bead, measuring
every aspect against stored acceptance criteria. Easy to learn and use, this welding QA tool incorporates a high resolution
camera with an integrated zoom controlled by software, an LED ring light
engineered for this application, and software that was written specifically for
precise weld bead control. A description of the welding parts and the weld bead acceptance criteria is
registered and password-protected by the system administrator. All parameters
are automatically loaded and processed during measurements. For each weld
bead measurement, an image and analysis report are created. All measurements
are saved into global files.
Welding Expert is autocalibrated and autofocused. Measurement results
are saved into secure Excel spreadsheets. Reports can be created to focus
on specific parts, or on statistical overviews.
This important new welding QA system available from Struers includes:
- Welding Expert bench-top console with internal camera
- Remote control zoom lens
- Power-adjustable LED ring light
- Weld bead measurement and reporting software
- Calibration slide and 5 glasses
- 2 USB interface cables
- 1 USB protection dongle

Struers is proud to announce that we are now certified
compliant with the ISO 14001 standard for Environmental
Management Systems.
